One of the major stories for the last two weeks over the 2025 NASCAR Cup season opener has been the return of 65-year-old Mike Wallace with MBM Motorsports. But the sanctioning body killed the hype by disqualifying him from racing in any of the three national series events, owing to his inactivity from top-tier racing in the last five years.
Mike Wallace, who has won one ARCA, Truck and Xfinity series race each at the track was heartbroken over the decision to DQ him from Daytona 500. He has released a second statement on the injustice he has suffered, as the senior management had initially promised him an opportunity to try to qualify before going back on their words.
He is frustrated with the notion that his experience of racing over 800 Cup events in his 30-year career isn’t worth it. Wallace then went on to highlight the double standard, pointing to the OEP rule change that has promised four-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves a starting spot on his Daytona 500 debut, despite his lack of experience.

NASCAR management’s dishonesty hurt Mike Wallace
It not the DQ that is hurting Mike Wallace, it’s the fact that he was initially told that the entry is 100% possible. He feels like someone shoved a knife through his heart with their decision to retract the offer that was given to him.
The comments from Mike Wallace shows he is still heartbroken for the whole ordeal and is looking for a way to overcome the pain. It would be interesting to see if NASCAR would address the situation and put an end to the bad PR.
