Woody Johnson fired Robert Saleh from the head coach position last week, but the Jets see no improvement as Aaron Rodgers’ fifth interception of the season hands the Buffalo Bills a crucial victory over their AFC East rivals. But was it alright to blame Aaron Rodgers for that?

Deep in the fourth quarter, the Bills held a slender three-point lead, but the Jets had possession of the ball on third down inside their own 30-yard line. Aaron Rodgers threw his trademark deep passes, aiming at Mike Williams, who had one Bills defender as his marker.

Williams twisted his body to catch the ball but slipped at the critical moment. Bills’ corner Taron Johnson, who had been shadowing Williams, the entire half took advantage of the Jets’ wide receiver’s slip and intercepted the pass. Rodgers had turned the ball over once again.

With just over a minute to play, the turnover gave the Bills the chance to run the clock down and take control of the division, which they did as the game ended 23-20.

In Williams’ defense, the pass from Rodgers was shorter than the intended landing zone. On the other hand, a few might argue that the eighth-year veteran receiver overran his route and had to check back, causing him to lose his footing on the notorious MetLife turf.

Aaron Rodgers reflects on the Bills loss

Aside from the one major blip in the veteran quarterback’s game, he was more than average in his passing. Rodgers ended the game with 23 completions from 35 for 294 yards and 2 touchdowns. One of them was a dime to Garrett Wilson in the first quarter, and the second was a classic Rodgers Hail Mary to Allen Lazard for a 52-yard tuddy.

After the game, the 40-year-old acknowledged that they shouldn’t have left it hanging until the end.

When asked about whether the Jets should be concerned about their 2-4 start to the season, Rodgers agreed that there is.

Well I think there’s concern but that’s important. We need to get going. This was a golden opportunity. Some games you win and some games you give away. This was a giveaway.

Rodgers distributed the ball well. Both Wilson and Breece Hall, who previously struggled to put up numbers, crossed 100 yards each.
