Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a master tactician. The Spaniard has played a crucial role to make his side one of the most feared and well-balanced sides in all of Europe.
Even though trophies have been difficult to come by, fans are convinced that he will bring success sooner or later. Despite all his tactical brilliance and understanding of the game, many felt that the 42-year-old went a bit overboard as he tried to teach his players a ‘lesson’.
As per several reports on social media, the manager hosted a dinner for his players, at which he employed professional pickpockets! The goal was to make them ‘steal’ various belongings from his team members and then ask them to check their pockets at the end. He then proceeded to do so and made use of the opportunity to remind his players to be alert constantly.
Event though Arteta may have succeeded in his ‘plan’, news of the same was not received well on the internet. Many called Arteta ‘cringe’ and laughed at how he started to act out of character after repeatedly missing out on the Premier League title to Pep Guardiola. Jokes aside, Arteta demolished Xabi Alonso & Bayer Leverkusen in a pre-season friendly at the Emirates.
Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso heaps praise on Mikel Arteta
Arteta may have ’embarrassed’ himself on social media, but that didn’t stop him from getting the better of reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen. Following a resounding 4-1 victory, former Spanish midfielder and Arteta’s childhood friend heaped praise on Arteta. The Leverkusen boss said that Arsenal will be able to compete with the very best in Manchester City & Liverpool.
He's been a competitive animal. He's also developed the Arsenal project so well.Xabi Alonso told HaytersTV
The Spaniard also recalled their childhood days, where he showed signs of very high competitiveness and a desire to win. Alonso also made sure to stress the fact that Mikel Arteta was not an overnight success and that his current position is the fruit of decisions that he’s taken in the past. With wins against Leverkusen and Manchester United, fans are convinced that Arsenal are in the mood to win titles this year.
Alonso then quickly tracked back to the situation at his club, ‘thanking’ Arsenal for giving his men a ‘wake-up call’ ahead of the season. Despite receiving offers from several top clubs, the manager opted to stay at Leverkusen for the remainder of his contract with just one thing in mind – success. After three pre-season games since the 26th of July, the club have only managed to win one – a 2-1 win over third division side RW Essen.
