Arsenal kick off their Premier League season on the 17th of August, as they host Wolves at the Emirates. After missing out on the league title yet again to rivals Manchester City, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has claimed that his side is ready to have another go at it. In a recent press conference, the Spaniard claimed that his staff and players are ‘ruthless’ and keep him motivated for the entirety of the season.

Arsenal claimed a total of 89 points but came in second best as City successfully defended their title with 91. Even though Arsenal are still not done in the transfer market, Arteta appeared to be confident with the players he had.

They're ready and ruthless about the vision we have. The players put a smile on my face. That's my biggest motivation.

Mikel Arteta tight-lipped when asked about transfer target Mikel Merino

Arsenal have been on the tail of Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 hero, Mikel Merino, ever since the 28-year-old helped La Roja to the title. Even though rumors surrounding the player’s signing have been circulating for over two weeks, it is understood that Merino’s signing is closer than ever for the Gunners.

As per reports, the club’s management has struck up a deal with Real Sociedad for a £29.8 million fee. That being said, the Arsenal boss was in no mood to speculate about a potential signing in a recent press conference. A reporter attempted to pry out a response from the Spaniard by asking whether ‘Mikel likes Mikel’.

However, Mikel Arteta bluntly shut down all possibilities of speculation by responding coyly.

If I like myself you mean? You know that I cannot talk about any other player.
