From rivals to friends, the past week saw almost every Arsenal fan side with Tottenham Hotspur as they took on Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Gunners needed Spurs to do them a much-needed favor by getting a result against City.
However, Spurs lost the game 2-0, and to make things worse, Son Heung-min missed a crucial chance in the final minutes that would’ve put his side level.
Kai Havertz had already admitted that he’d be the biggest Spurs fan before they hosted City. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was rooting for Spurs too, and the manager recently revealed the reaction of his children to Son’s ‘miss’. The Spaniard was surprised himself as he picked Son as the player best equipped to make that finish.
When he missed, my kids were running around the table! You can imagine.Mikel Arteta said in a press conference
Arteta and co. will now hope for Man City to drop points on the final matchday against West Ham while they pick up a win against Everton. As it stands, the Gunners are trailing by two points behind City.
Mikel Arteta says the Premier League dream is ‘still alive’
With just one matchday left to play in the Premier League, only Arsenal and Manchester City remain in contention for the crown. Leaders City have 88 points in 37 games, while Mikel Arteta’s side are two points behind, on 86 points.
I do believe. We wanted to be in this position. We have earned the right to life a beautiful day in front of our fans on Sunday and hope that we can lift the Premier League title. We need to do our bit first and then hope West Ham do us a big favor.Mikel Arteta said in a press conference
The last time Arsenal were Premier League champions was back in 2003/04. Ever since Arteta took charge in 2019, the club’s best finish in the League came last year, when they were runner-up to City. Arsenal fans are hoping that this season’s finale isn’t a repeat of what happened last season.
