Arsenal suffered one of the most heartbreaking ends to a League season in all of Europe. After spending a total of 76 days on top of the League table, the Gunners were forced to accept their runners-up spot to Manchester City for the second time in two consecutive seasons.

On the final matchday, a 2-1 win over Everton was not enough to prevent Pep Guardiola‘s City from winning a fourth consecutive League title. Despite falling short of the title yet again, Mikel Arteta orchestrated an 89-point season for the Gunners.

His efforts earned him the title of ‘Best Premier League Manager’ for the 2023/24 season at Globe Soccer European edition. Arteta however, asserted that his only goal is to win titles with the club.

We want to win, win and win. That's what we want. We have a team that is enthusiastic and hungry to win trophies. We believe that we can, so we're going to give it a real go.

Despite Arteta’s best efforts, Manchester City capitalized in the final stretch of the season, beating Arsenal by a margin of just two points.

Mikel Arteta closing in on new long-term deal with Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta joined the club back in 2019 halfway into the 2019/20 Premier League season. The Spanish tactician ‘struggled’ in his initial seasons with the club before finding his feet in recent seasons. Despite his best efforts, Arteta only has one FA Cup and two Community Shield trophies to show for.

However, there has been significant improvements in terms of performances. Arsenal qualified for the Champions League last season after spending seven seasons out of Europe’s Premier competition.

As per reports, the club is preparing to offer a new long-term deal for the Spaniard. It is understood that both club and players are happy with their progress and will remain together in an effort to bring the Premier League back to the Etihad.

Arteta’s current deal expires at the end of the 2024/25 season and club management is desperate to hold him down for extended periods. That being said, it may not be the same story for Arteta if they finish yet another season trophyless. Fans can only hope that Arsenal can finally put an end to Manchester City‘s dominance.
