Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus recently claimed that he would never urge manager Mikel Arteta to give him more playing time. Arteta faces a massive selection dilemma ahead of the club’s upcoming EPL encounter against Crystal Palace, following the Brazilian’s recent return to form.

Gabriel Jesus silenced critics with a hat-trick against Crystal Palace in an exciting 3-2 win, helping Arsenal make it to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. Prior to his recent display, the Brazilian center-forward was enduring a difficult spell at the club, plagued with injuries and loss of confidence.

The 27-year-old only played second fiddle to Kai Havertz, who had taken over the number nine position. However, the ex-Manchester City star has sent a timely reminder of his qualities to manager Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners face Crystal once again this weekend, and it remains to be seen who Arteta picks to lead the forward line. Speaking ahead of the match, Gabriel Jesus, however, stated that he would never knock on Arteta’s door, asking him for more playing time.

He added that he only did it once, when he approached Man City boss Pep Guardiola for inputs regarding improvement. Moreover, he exclaimed that his stats this season fail to depict how hard he has worked in the limited playing opportunities.

I have knocked on a manager’s door only one time in my life. I knocked on Pep Guardiola’s door, not to complain but to ask him what I could improve. I would never go to Mikel’s door and say, ‘I want to play’.

Jesus also added that fans and pundits expect him to keep firing as a traditional number nine, despite the challenges. The Brazilian’s return to form is expected to make it difficult for Arsenal to sign for a new center-forward next year.

Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal can ‘rely’ on Gabriel Jesus

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta insisted that the team can rely on 27-year-old center-forward Gabriel Jesus for the rest of the season, following his impressive display against Crystal Palace. The Brazilian scored a hat-trick in a dramatic 3-2 comeback win in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals.

Prior to his recent display, Gabriel only had a goal and two assists to his name in 21 appearances this season. However, his recent turnaround in form has convinced Mikel Arteta that he can continue delivering. Arteta praised the Brazilian’s goal-scoring abilities as well as his sharpness against Palace. While terming him as an asset, Arteta claimed that they can rely on him for the rest of the season.

I think it’s a great thing for him, it’s a great thing for the team as well that we can rely on a player with such quality. Gabby at that level is a big asset for us.

Interestingly, the Gunners were looking to offload Gabriel Jesus next year, with their eyes set on signing a new number nine. Arsenal had identified Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic and Sporting CP Viktor Gyokeres as potential transfer targets.
