Mikel Arteta hints at a hectic last day of the winter transfer window for Arsenal

Arsenal football club have had a pretty busy January transfer window with a host of players leaving the club and the arrival of a few more. Long standing player Mesut Ozil has finally been released.

Arsenal played Manchester United in the Premier League to register a goalless draw which saw both teams fight it out as the Gunners looked to rise up in the table. Goalkeeper Matt Ryan is a new addition after the departure of Emiliano Martinez in the summer.

Amongst the players who are set to leave is wing back Ainsley Maitland Niles who is supposed to join Southampton. However Brendan Rodgers has shown interest in the player and Leicester City are also in the race to sign him.

With the departure of attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil, Martin Odegaard has been brought in from Real Madrid. Odegaard did feature in a cameo appearance against Manchester United. The emergence of youngster Emile Smith Rowe is encouraging for the club.

Mikel Arteta has said that anything unexpected can happen in the final day of the transfer window. Hence Arsenal fans might be in for some unexpected surprise. Arteta has spoken about the want of bringing in a back up left back for Kieran Tierney and that might happen. He hinted about it in the pre match conference against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He has his eyes set upon Ryan Bertrand from Southampton FC. Bertrand has only six months left in his contract at St. Mary’s. Patrick Van Arnholt from crystal palace is also on the radar.

We have decided [who could leave today] and we are working on it,” said Arteta. “You will find out before 11pm. I cannot speak about any individual players. What we want to do, the conversations we’ve had, the various reasons – let’s see if we can get something done tonight.”

The last day of the transfer window is always unpredictable so things can happen,” he said. “They might happen, they might not happen. We are on it.”
