Mikel Arteta speaks with the referees

Individual errors once again cost Arsenal the match against Aston Villa. Portuguese international Cedric Suarez is filling in for regular left back Keiran Tierney and made a costly mistake at the start of the match as he gave away the ball to Traore who I squared it up for Olli Watkins. Watkins scored just 75 second into the game.

That was the only goal scorer in the game but it needs to be said that although Arsenal had 70% of possession; Aston Villa had the more clear cut chances. Had it not been for Australian international Matt Ryan who was making his debut, the gap could’ve been further.

Matt Ryan did well to keep out two solid efforts from Olli Watkins and Jack Grealish next which took him some diving to the left. New boy Martin Odegaard was given half an hour and had one chance go blazing above the bar with Nicolas Pepe once again showing some bright moments.

We just gave them the ball, a moment you make a mistake and they punish you,”

You cannot win football matches if every week you do something like that. Four or five times we’ve played with 10 men. Against Wolves, we deserved to win both games by far but we lost both.

“[Red cards] cost us that game [against Wolves] – today other big decisions. Regardless of what the referee did today we should win the game comfortably.”
