The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won resoundingly against the hapless New York Giants early on Sunday. It also brought out a viral celebration from quarterback Baker Mayfield. But little did anyone have an idea that the star was going through some turmoil in his family.

The former No. 1 overall pick and his wife Emily Mayfield filed a lawsuit on November 22nd against his father James W. Mayfield and his brother Matt Mayfield. The lawsuit also brings their company, Camwood Capital Management Group and its subsidiaries, into the picture for failing to honor a settlement agreement.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers star had loaned out $12.2 million to his father and brother over a period of three years, starting from 2018. That amounts to approximately one-third of the rookie contract he signed with the Cleveland Browns.

The settlement agreement was to start in September this year with the first major payout. But Baker Mayfield and his wife have not received that money. Nor have they been given access to Camwood’s books as per terms of the settlement.

Now the situation seems to have forced his hand and thus, they filed this lawsuit in Austin, Texas. WFLA managed to get access to the documents in that lawsuit and figured that the seven-year veteran is looking to recover his money as well as the expenses involved in the agreement as well as the lawsuit.

The superstar seems to be juggling a lot this season. The birth of his first child, negotiating a new contract with the Buccaneers, as well as now this dispute. It will be settled once he receives $11.74 million back from them.

Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers can still make playoffs

With lawyers taking over the family dispute, Baker Mayfield can concentrate on matters in his job. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost some close games and currently stand with a 5-6 record. That record also means they are second in the NFC South.

In an extremely competitive NFC, they have already covered most of the tough matchups so far. Now they have six games left, out of which they could win them all. But even realistically, they could win four games at the minimum.

Even if they cannot win their division, they can make a play for a Wild Card spot. If anything, they should take motivation from those close losses to the Chiefs, 49ers, Falcons and Ravens. In those games, the Buccaneers showed they can go toe to toe with the best in the NFL. Now they just have to show it on the field.
