The chef has finally cooked. On Sunday, Australian golfer Min Woo Lee held off World No.1 Scottie Scheffler and Gary Woodland to claim his maiden PGA Tour title at the 2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open.
Since joining the tour Lee has become a fan favorite. While he has claimed some international wins, he was still looking for his first success on the PGA Tour. After a 7-under 63 score on Saturday, he entered the clubhouse as the 54-hole leader.
On Sunday, he was pushed to the limits by Woodland and Scheffler. As Woodland fired a low score of 62, Scheffler posted a 7-under 63 score to remain in hunt for a first win of the 2025 season.
Lee on the other hand, scored 67 in the final round with 4 birdies and 1 bogey. This saw wrap up the tournament with scores of 66, 64, 63 and 67 while being 20-under par. In the end, he claimed his first PGA Tour title finishing 1 shot ahead of both Scheffler and Woodland who finished T2 while being 19-under.
Following the round, Lee pointed out how ‘hard’ the first win was on the tour and claimed that he was very ‘exhausted’ by 4 days of constantly fighting for the title.
It’s hard, it’s really hard. Obviously, Scottie is a wonderful golfer and he keeps you on your toes. The first time being in front, I’m glad I got it done. I’m very exhausted. It was a lot of mental grind. I’m so proud of how I handled myself.

Scheffler meanwhile, had another heartbreak in this event. Last year he finished one shot behind winner Stephen Jaeger and missed the chance of winning 3 PGA Tour events in a row. He once again finished one shot behind the winner of this event this year.
Social media reacts to Min Woo Lee claiming 1st PGA Tour title at Houston Open

With this win, Lee joined an exclusive club with his sister, Minjee Lee. They became just the third brother-sister pair to win on the PGA and the LPGA Tour. Minjee Lee is a two-time major champion on the LPGA Tour. The other two pairs in this list are Billy Kratzert and Cathy Gerring and Jim Gallagher Jr. and Jackie Gallagher.

How much money did Min Woo Lee earn from his maiden PGA Tour win?
The 2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open will be one event that Min Woo Lee will never forget. He finally found himself in the winner’s circle on the PGA Tour with a one shot victory. How much did he earn from his maiden win though?

Unlike the other signature events, the prize money in this event is low. However, compared to the Valspar Championship a week ago, the purse is a little bit bigger at $9.5 million.
From his maiden win on the tour, Lee walked away with a $1.7 million cheque. His win also gave him 500 valuable FedEx Cup points.
Min Woo Lee shoots rounds of 66, 64, 63 and 67 to win the Houston Open by 1 from Scottie Scheffler and Gary Woodland. It’s the 5th worldwide win of his career but his very first on the PGA Tour and he held off the world number 1 in his home state to do it. Cooking! 🇦🇺 pic.twitter.com/TKv1fgW0qE

Meanwhile, Gary Woodland and Scottie Scheffler who finished as the runners-up of this event, pocketed $845,500 from this. Rory McIlroy, who got $337,844 from this purse, officially crossed the $100 million mark in career earnings from the PGA from this event.
The PGA Tour will now turn it’s attention to the Valero Texas Open this week. This will be the final event before the first major championship of the year, the Masters Tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club.
