The Dallas Cowboys are on the verge of losing two of their star players because of the contract standoff, despite their repeated reassurance that the negotiations are in process. While the contract extension seems out of sight in the near future, Dak Prescott’s estimated value upon entering the free agency is all anyone can talk about these days.
The latest prediction on the quarterback’s potential contract in free agency is given by analyst Mina Kimes during her appearance on ESPN’s First Take on Thursday. She claimed that Prescott would get an “ungodly amount of money” following the 2024 season.
When he signs a contract, I expect it, frankly, to start with the number six. If Dak tests free agency, he is going to get paid an ungodly amount of money, whether or not you agree with that, that's a different conversation. I'm just telling you it's going to happen.Mina Kimes said
Having said that, Kimes also explained why she predicts such a big number for the three-time Pro Bowler and said it is because of his standout performance in 2023. Not only did he post one of the finest stats among the quarterbacks, but was also in the running for the NFL MVP honor.
Additionally, the 2025 NFL draft also has a role in the potentially lucrative deal for Prescott as Kimes claimed the next class of the draft is not heavy with quarterbacks like this time, which would call for multiple re-signing and free agency signing.
Dak Prescott’s ankle soreness raises questions
Many believe the reason behind such delay in the extension by the Cowboys is because owner Jerry Jones wants to see results first and then he will certainly pay his top players. While the signal-caller is already concentrating on improving his game, he faced a setback after sustaining a minor ankle soreness.
The news came out after the Cowboys gave Prescott a day off from the training camp because of his injury. They clarified that it was only for precautionary purposes and nothing alarming in terms of serious injury.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Prescott’s injury has become a topic of discussion because just a few months ago, he was scrutinized for wearing walking boots which raised concern about his ankle. The rumors finally came to an end when he himself addressed them and confirmed that he was nothing the walking boots anymore.
