Minecraft Spider: Location, spawns, drops and more!

Minecraft has many mobs that roam the Overworld and can be varied according to their behaviour towards players. Here is one of them, called the Minecraft Spider, which was the first insectoid monster introduced in the game!

Mobs in Minecraft are divided on many basis and one of them is their behaviour towards the players. They are classified into:

  • Passive
  • Neutral
  • Hostile

The Minecraft Spider is neutral mob by daytime and a hostile one at night, climbing walls and attacking players whenever in sight.

The Spider in Minecraft is a commonly found neutral/hostile mob that can climb walls when attacking. They are characterised by their black bodies, eight legs and red eyes.

Spawn and Locations

Spiders spawn anywhere in the world with a light level of 7 or less and in groups of 1-4. They can also spawn from spawners found in Dungeons where they can spawn in hordes. These spawners are surrounded by cobwebs.

Behaviour and Attacks

  • Spiders are hostile towards the players during night or in low light levels and neutral towards players when in daylight or in a light level above 11.
  • They are hostile towards the players and iron golems.
  • They can climb over solid blocks in order to chase the target and attack while jumping.
  • This version of spiders does not contain poison, unlike Cave Spiders.
  • It has 16 health points and 4 attack damage.
  • Players can easily kill them with the Bane of Arthropods enchantment.

Varieties

Spiders can spawn with status effects which may improve their power. This only happens in hard difficulty.

These are the status effects that can apply to them:

  • Speed I
  • Strength I
  • Regeneration I
  • Invisibility I

Spiders can also spawn as a Spider jockey with a skeleton riding on top of him. This has a 1% chance of occurring.

Drops

Upon death Spiders drop the following:

  • 0-2 Strings
  • 5 EXP orbs
  • Spider eyes
