Mirra Andreeva has taken the women’s circuit by storm after capturing her second consecutive WTA 1000 title in Indian Wells. The 17-year-old did that by defeating three Top 10 players including Aryna Sabalenka. Her coach, Conchita Martinez, believes that the Russian star can win several Grand Slams if she continues with her form.
Andreeva’s remarkable performance began at the Dubai Tennis Championships, where she made a record by defeating three Grand Slam champions en route to the title. The new World No.6 continued with the form in Indian Wells and wasted no time in defeating the likes of Varvara Gracheva, Clara Tauson, and Elena Rybakina.
She then ousted Elina Svitolina in the quarter-finals before stunning Iga Swiatek for the second time in less than a month. The Russian finished the work in the final by beating Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. However, Andreeva has not had it easy at the Grand Slam stage. Her best run at the event was in the 2024 French Open, where she reached the semifinals.
At the Australian Open and Wimbledon, she has performed decently to reach the fourth round, but at the US Open, she’s yet to get beyond the second round. During an interview, Andreeva’s coach, Conchita Martinez, said that she can be able to win Grand Slams only if she remains clear-headed.
She has no limits. If she stays patient, doesn’t rush things, keeps learning without rushing things to win a Grand Slam too quickly, and always remains clear-headed, she can become a great player and win several Grand Slams. But, as I keep telling her, you have to keep your feet on the ground. As long as I’m here, I don’t want to see her get a big head; that would be a serious mistake.

Andreeva has now been tipped to win the French Open this year. The World No.6 will have to rival Swiatek, who have made the event her home in recent years. The teenager will also have to deal with pressure in those kind of events.
Conchita Martinez shares reasons why Mirra Andreeva has been growing extraordinarily on the court
Mirra Andreeva has certainly established herself as one of the top WTA players in a short space of time. The Russian star made her debut in 2023 and, two years later, is beating World No.1 and No.2 in a tournament. Conchita Martinez revealed during the aforementioned interview that the reason for that is that she learns so quickly.

She’s a sponge, she learns very quickly. If I tell her ‘hit more as you go forward,’ she will absorb the information and apply it. Because she analyzes things very well. She is also a player with enormous self-confidence. And if she doubts, my role is precisely to make her stronger. What sets her apart above all is her mentality. She never gives up, she has this winning spirit, this desire to enter the court and refuse to lose. She is always certain that she can win.
Conchita Martinez said
Andreeva currently has high confidence in her skills and talent on the court. She has very much improved on her serves this season compared to last year. Also, she has found a way to maintain an aggressive style of play all through a match.
Mirra Andreeva’s chances of completing the Sunshine Double
Mirra Andreeva will be back again on the court at the Miami Open. There are only four women who have completed the Sunshine Double (Indian Wells and Miami Open): Steffi Graf, Kim Clijsters, Victoria Azarenka, and Iga Swiatek, all of whom have won at least two Grand Slam titles. Now Andreeva has a chance to add her name to the elite list.

She earned a first round bye due to her ranking position. However, she will be on the court for the second round against either Veronika Kudermetova or Xinyu Wang. After that, she will possibly face Amanda Anisimova in the third round before a likely matchup against American Emma Navarro in the fourth.
