Mirra Andreeva has revealed that she’s confident of beating Iga Swiatek ahead of their quarterfinal meeting in the Cincinnati Open. The teenager has picked two Top 20 wins in Cincinnati and has continued in her great form this season.
Mirra Andreeva reached her first Grand Slam semifinals at the French Open in June, losing to eventual runner-up Jasmine Paolini 3-6, 1-6. The Russian had previously beaten Paolini in Madrid in straight sets which was their first WTA meeting. On Friday (August 16), the duo faced each other in the round of 16 of the Cincinnati Open.
In the first set, Paolini had the upper hand in the match as the Italian controlled the game winning 6-3. Andreeva turned the match around in the second set with her great service, while Paolini dropped the momentum. She broke the No.5 seed service three times in the deciding set to make sure she earned a well-deserved 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The teenager will now face top-ranked Swiatek in the quarterfinals. After the win, Andreeva, ranked World No.24, revealed that she’s confident she will beat the No.1 seed.
Yes. I feel like I’m ready. Of course… she’s #1 in the world. But she’s also a human being. So I don’t think there’s something exceptional. Of course she’s playing great. She feels a lot of confidence. She’s very confident on court. I feel like so am I. I’m pretty confident as well. I’m just gonna go on court and do my best. If it doesn’t go my way this time, it’ll go my way next time. I will try my hardest to make sure that this time, it’s my way tomorrow.Mirra Andreeva said via Tennis Channel

Iga Swiatek beat Marta Kostyuk in straight set to earn a spot in the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open
Iga Swiatek powered past Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk to reach the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open. It was Swiatek’s second win over the Kostyuk this season. The Polish star had beaten Ukrainian at Indian Wells in March and now has a 3-0 record over in her, without losing a set.
The 23-year-old couldn’t get a pre-match practice before the match due to rain in the morning. But, she didn’t show any sign of rust as she claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kostyuk. During her on-court interview, she revealed that she was excited to win the match despite no warm-up.
It was a bit windy and conditions were tough. I tried to focus on easy things, like keeping the ball. It was not easy to win without a warmup, but I'm glad I was able to go out and play great tennis anyway.Iga Swiatek told the reporters
Swiatek will be competing in the 18th Masters 1000 quarterfinals of her career. The Polish star is favorite to claim the Cincinnati title.
