Amanda Anisimova took two hours and 49 minutes to end Mirra Andreeva‘s 13-match winning streak with a 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-3 victory in the Miami Open third round on Sunday (March 23). Following the defeat, Andreeva shared the distressing online messages she received from fans.
Andreeva scripted history recently by lifting the two WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells Masters, beating Clara Tauson and World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, respectively. En route to her two consecutive WTA titles, the teenager also knocked out defending champion Iga Swiatek in the Indian Wells semifinals.
She carried that form to Miami as well, beating Veronika Kudermetova, registering a bagel in her straight-set win. The Russian sensation was bidding to become the only fifth woman in the history of tennis to complete the Sunshine Double after Steffi Graf, Kim Clijsters, Victoria Azarenka, and Swiatek.
Despite her great run of forms, only one defeat was enough for a section of online fans to go heavily on her. Andreeva took to her Instagram story to share the horrifying hate messages she has been bombarded with, before deleting it.
And this is what you get when you lose 1 match.

Amanda Anisimova seemingly takes a dig at Mirra Andreeva
Amanda Anisimova injured her finger during her match against Mirra Andreeva and called for a medical timeout. The Russian was unconvinced, as she thought it was Anisimova’s strategy to stop her from making a comeback.

This happened in the third round when Andreeva was 1-3. “We all know why,” was Andreeva’s response when Anisimova took the medical timeout.
The skin broke on my finger so I couldn’t really hold the racket. When you get an acute injury, you’re allowed to take a timeout.
Amanda Anisimova said during the match
Now Anisimova took to her Instagram story to take a dig at Andreeva for not believing that she really injured her finger. She posted a video of her middle finger and used the phrase Andreeva used during the match to show her injury.
“We all know why” at 3-1 up was a good one coming from the 1-2 first set medical.

The match was between two players who have won a WTA 1000 title this year. Despite the subtle dig, Anisimova had praised the teen sensation for her recent achievements after taking a 1-0 lead in their head-to-head encounter.
Everyone has their own timeline. I don’t think my career is the same as hers. She’s doing amazing, having a great year. At 17, she’s had a great run this year and definitely not an easy opponent to play.
Amanda Anisimova said during her on-court interview
Anisimova has now advanced to the fourth round of her local event for the first time in her career. She is 11/4 this season.
Amanda Anisimova to lock horns with Emma Raducanu
After defeating Andreeva, Anisimova has now scheduled a fourth-round match against Emma Raducanu. The American will be meeting the Brit second time in her career. Raducanu, before setting up the clash with Anisimova, knocked out McCartney Kessler in the third round.

Anisimova lost the previous match she played against the World No.60. They met in this year’s Australian Open second round where Raducanu secured a straight-set win to progress to the third round in the tournament for the first time.
But the former World No. 10 couldn’t go past beyond the third round as she faced Iga Swiatek, who didn’t break a sweat in her straight-set win over Raducanu. The 2021 US Open champion is still searching for her first WTA title since her historic run at Flushing Meadows.
Anisimova, on the other hand, beat Jelena Ostapenko to capture her first WTA 1000 of her career at this year’s Qatar Open. The 23-year-old from Florida has so far won three singles titles.
