Mirra Andreeva is 18 but she for sure doesn’t feel like a newcomer. Being a part of the tour since 2022, the Russian teenager – the winner of two Big Titles (2025 Dubai Open and 2025 Indian Wells) – has enough experience to decide what’s good and bad for her.
Andreeva has already started her campaign at the Australian Open, which got underway on January 18. The following day, she played her first match, against Donna Vekic, defeating the Croatian in three sets to schedule a second-round clash with Maria Sakkari.
After improving her head-to-head record to 2-0 over the 2024 Paris Olympics silver medalist, Andreeva was asked how she handles online toxicity which has been compounded by the gambling culture. She admitted to getting overwhelmed after coming across negative stuff written on her but eventually learned to ignore them.
Well, obviously in the beginning when I just got to the tour, it was pretty hard because it was all new to me. So, when I saw the bad message, I clicked on it. I started to investigate who was this person, why did this person text me and all of that. But then after with time, I realized that everyone gets these kind of messages.
Mirra Andreeva said at the press conference
Andreeva, a one-time Grand Slam semifinalist, has yet to advance to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. She reached the fourth round in her debut at Melbourne Park in 2024 and crashed out again in the last 16 in 2025.
But I just try not to be on social media too much, you know. I sometimes repost stories, or I post some photos but other than that I really try to turn off my phone, and I don’t know, do something else and not to spend too much time there.
Mirra Andreeva added
Last year in Majors, after losing the Australian Open fourth round, Andreeva made the quarterfinals of the French Open and Wimbledon, before suffering a third-round exit at the US Open. Her two WTA 1000 titles helped her reach her career-best No.5 on the rankings table.
Mirra Andreeva on her relationship with Victoria Mboko
Mirra Andreeva has now become a four-time WTA singles titlist. She started her campaign for the 2026 season at the Brisbane International, where her run ended in the quarterfinals with a straight-set defeat to eventual runner-up Marta Kostyuk.

But Andreeva added a WTA 500 title to her name for the first time with a straight-set win over Victoria Mboko in the Adelaide International final. At the press conference, Andreeva was asked whether it was weird to play against a fellow teenager who also has a WTA 1000 title to her name.
When I saw her play amazing tennis last year, winning a Montreal tournament, and obviously I know her for a very, very long time, she’s one of my good friends as well, it was more nice and more exciting just to see her do well. You know, eventually we got to share the final together.
Mboko lifted the Canadian Open last year by going past four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka. The 22nd seed breezed past Emerson Jones in the first round in the ongoing event to schedule her next match against Caty McNally.
The 19-year-old produced her best Grand Slam performance in last year’s French Open, reaching the third round. At Wimbledon and the US Open, she lost in the second and first rounds, respectively. Mboko is playing the first Major of the season for the first time in her career. Apart from her home WTA 1000 event, Mboko also took home the 2025 Hong Kong Open by defeating Cristina Bucsa.
