At the age of 17, Mirra Andreeva has taken the tennis world by storm. After becoming the youngest WTA 1000 champion by clinching the Dubai Tennis Championships title, Andreeva is now a finalist at Indian Wells.
Andreeva defeated second seed Iga Swiatek in a tightly contested three-setter at the semifinals, extending the Pole’s title drought from the previous year’s French Open. Swiatek, who is a two-time champion at Indian Wells, was looking to defend the title this year and also become the first woman to win three titles in this tournament.
Although Iga Swiatek started smoothly, dropping only one point in her first three service games, Mirra Andreeva took a 5-4 lead with a crucial break, benefiting from a double fault by Swiatek. The first set proceeded to a tiebreaker where Andreeva dominated.

Despite Swiatek rebounding in the second set with three breaks and a breadstick, the momentum shifted back to Andreeva in the third. Andreeva had previously defeated Swiatek a few weeks back in the quarterfinals in Dubai in straight sets. After the semifinal victory, the young Russian tennis star cheekily spoke about seeing her mother Raisa Andreeva‘s nervous face on the big screen.
Mirra Andreeva will face Aryna Sabalenka in the Indian Wells finals
Mirra Andreeva will face World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the Indian Wells finals. The Belarusian holds a 4-1 lead in their head-to-head record. This upcoming match will mark their third meeting of the year, with Sabalenka routing Andreeva in straight sets in Brisbane and in the Australian Open. Andreeva’s sole victory amongst their 5 encounters was in the clay courts of Roland Garros during the 2024 quarterfinals.

Sabalenka has reached the finals of Indian Wells without dropping a set en route. This is her second time in the finals of Indian Wells, with her first time being in 2023, when she lost to Elena Rybakina. Sabalenka has had an impressive run in this tournament, avenging her heartbreaking Australian Open loss against Madison Keys.
