In Short
  • Mirra Andreeva lost in the third round of Indian Wells to Katerina Siniakova, failing to defend her title.
  • Following her defeat, Andreeva expressed regret over her emotional outburst towards fans, stating she needs to work on managing her emotions.
  • Andreeva previously won the Indian Wells title last year and is also competing in doubles with Victoria Mboko at the event.

Mirra Andreeva crashed out of Indian Wells with a three-set defeat to Katerina Siniakova in the third round. The 18-year-old was playing as the defending champion.

Prior to her failed Indian Wells title defense, Andreeva also couldn’t defend her title at the Dubai Tennis Championships, losing to Amanda Anisimova in the quarterfinals. Andreeva was so upset with her defeat that she threw her racket and later repeatedly smashed it. Before leaving the court, she even told everyone, “f**k you all“. But now, she regrets swearing at the fans.

Well, of course, I can say that there were a lot of emotions that I was going through after the loss. But of course, I’m not really proud of how I managed it. I’m not really proud of how I handled it in the end. Those are the things that really need to work on soon. I don’t know. Not in the future, but whenever I get the chance. Yeah, I hope that I can work on it and I get better in that, as well.

Last year at Indian Wells, the Russian ace defeated World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final. Andreeva was also chasing her second title of the season following her successful run at the Adelaide International, where she beat Victoria Mboko.

The teenagers have paired up for doubles in the ongoing event and eliminated the pair of Hailey Baptiste and Jelena Ostapenko to schedule their quarterfinals match against Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunic. Mboko, the reigning Canadian Open champion, who is competing at Indian Wells for the first time, has set up a fourth-round clash with Amanda Anisimova.

It was to myself, to everyone, basically. I mean, after the loss, I just get very angry, so I say those things sometimes to myself. I mean, first to myself, of course, but then, yeah, it was just anger coming out, just a lot of emotions. Not really towards anyone.

Andreeva has won one doubles title. Last year, she and Diana Shnaider defeated Cristina Bucsa and Miyu Kato in the Miami Open final.

Yeah, of course, she’s a tricky opponent to face. She plays a lot of doubles, so she has good hands, good skills. I’ve never played against her. I mean, it was a tough match, of course. Was not the best day for me in terms of how I played, but also a lot of credits to her. She played good. She showed some good tennis on the court. Wishing her the best luck for the tournament.
