In Short
  • Mitchell Starc expressed pride and joy from the commentary box as his wife, Alyssa Healy, scored a century in her final ODI match.
  • Alyssa Healy retired after her last match against India, finishing her ODI career with 158 runs and setting a record for the highest score in a final ODI appearance.
  • Australia won the series 3-0, with Healy's performance complemented by contributions from teammates, including Beth Mooney's unbeaten 106 runs.

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc beamed with pride, applauding from the commentary box after his wife, Aussie women’s cricket team captain Alyssa Healy, hit a century in her final ODI appearance. Healy was celebrating her innings in her team’s third W-ODI against India in Hobart.

Alyssa Healy appeared in her final limited-overs match for Australia at the Bellerive Oval, following her earlier announcement that she would retire at the end of the series against India. She will also step down from her role as captain, with bowling all-rounder Sophie Molineux set to replace her. She concluded her 50-over career with flair, scoring her eighth ODI century in the final match of the series, which Australia won 3-0.

It was a fairytale farewell for Healy, as she smashed 158 runs off 98 balls to guide Australia to a massive first innings total of 409/7. Her knock built out of sheer brilliance, including an astonishing 27 fours and two sixes on her way to only her second 150+ score in the format. The 35-year-old 150 came off just 95 deliveries, making it the second-fastest in women’s ODI history, behind Suzie Bates’ 93-ball record.

On her final day as Australia’s white-ball captain, Healy also broke the record for the highest individual score by any player, male or female, in a final One-Day appearance. Against India, she battled with a calf injury throughout the latter part of the innings. A double-century seemed certain until she was bowled out by Sneh Rana in the 37th over while attempting an audacious reverse sweep off a full toss.

When Healy reached her century with a four, the cameras focused on the mood in the commentary box. While the Hobart crowd rose in appreciation, her husband Mitchell Starc enjoyed a proud moment. Starc kept on with a lengthy applause, while fellow commentators noted that he ‘could not wipe the smile off his face’. It also brought back memories of the time when Starc was seen vigorously clapping after Healy scored a famous 170 against New Zealand in the 2022 Women’s WC final.

Healy’s effort was complemented by Georgia Voll‘s 62 off 52 balls, as the duo forged a 104-run second-wicket stand. Beth Mooney was the other centurion, with her unbeaten 106 runs off 84 balls ultimately helping Australia to a 185-run win over India.

Having met at the age of nine, Healy and Starc are childhood sweethearts who got married in 2016. The couple share several rare ‘doubles’, including the unique statistic of their highest Test scores being 99. While Alyssa Healy was dismissed for 99 runs against South Africa in 2024, Starc recorded the same score against India in 2013. They also played their 287th match for Australia on the same day, in 2025.

Alyssa Healy however, overtakes her husband when it comes to ICC trophies, given she has won a record six Women’s T20 World Cup titles, and two ODI WC titles. The couple holds matching World Cup legacies, with Mitchell Starc having picked up the most wickets (27) in a single edition of the ODI WC in 2019. Healy also held the record for the most runs (509) in a single edition of the WC until last year.

Both players also won the POTS award in their respective ODI World Cups, with Starc earning the honour in 2015 and Healy in 2022. The couple is now expected to participate in various off-field activities, including their shared passion for playing golf.
