With merely five more dates left on John Cena‘s WWE farewell tour that began in January, there’s only a handful of names he could end up in the ring with. Noted WWE correspondent Sam Roberts pitched a scenario that would line up Carmelo Hayes as one of Cena’s last opponents with an intriguing plot twist.
Roberts discussed it at length during his Notsam Wrestling podcast. The 42-year-old radio host wondered what if The Miz is planning to confront ‘The Cenation Leader’ in his hometown of Boston on the November 10th episode of Raw. It would be Cena’s last-ever WWE appearance in front of his local crowd at the TD Garden.
Robert’s theory about Miz makes even more sense given that the ‘A-Lister recently expressed his displeasure with getting shunned from being a part of Cena’s retirement journey. Miz could very well be looking to seize the moment in Boston.
However, what if, as Roberts envisioned, Carmelo Hayes stops his current tag team partner in the gorilla position and tells the former WWE Champion that he would take care of Cena by getting ahead of The Miz?

"What if in Boston, The Miz is planning on going out and confronting John Cena, and Melo takes over.

It would be poetic, as ‘The Awesome One’ has treated Melo as an afterthought in their pairing by keeping his nose ahead and jumping the gun on decisions that should’ve ideally been taken mutually. Henceforth, it’s time for Hayes to get one up on Miz, and it’d do wonders for him if the former NXT Champion ends up wrestling John Cena in a full-length match.
And as per Roberts’ pitch, Hayes would lose to Cena after fighting valiantly. A handshake afterwards between Hayes and Cena would be a sight to behold, and the crowd would be going nuts for it, as both of them hail from Massachusetts. That would give Miz the ammo to vent his frustration on Melo, thus leading to the ‘A-lister’ eventually turning his back on Hayes.
WWE will soon announce the details of John Cena’s last match
It is no secret that John Cena is on the cusp of reaching the tail end of his retirement tour. Moreover, the 48-year-old will compete in his last-ever WWE match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 in the nation’s capital. It was noted during the latest edition of WrestleVotes radio that WWE was likely to officially announce the final match details of Cena as early as September 28.

It’s bound to happen sooner or later. But the more important aspect of Cena stepping into the ring for the last time is about the man who would stand across from him. A while ago, WRKD Wrestling claimed that it’s going to be none other than someone the Peacemaker actor has never faced, Gunther.

‘The Ring General’ hasn’t been seen on WWE television since losing his world title at SummerSlam. Another interesting name speculated to oppose ‘The Franchise Player’ is Drew McIntyre. The Scot has never battled Cena in a singles match, and it’s something he’d take in a heartbeat if he were roped in as Cena’s last match opponent. In potentially the most awaited matchup of Cena’s entire farewell tour, he’s just days away from taking on AJ Styles at Crown Jewel.

This match was made official after a work-shoot-styled activity on social media staged by ‘Mr. Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect’. WWE CCO Triple H made Cena vs. Styles official and received a thank you note from the Heads of State actor in return.
‘The Phenomenal One’ expressed his gratitude toward the fans on this week’s Raw for letting their voices be heard. Styles then quipped that he’ll get to do something that he loves, to beat up John Cena.
