At AEW Double or Nothing, MJF finally made his long-awaited return. The Devil walked out with a look in his eyes that had been missing in the final months of his previous run. Moreover, he was covered in denim, similar to Triple H‘s iconic fit at MSG in 2002. As expected, this gained a lot of traction online. Recently, MJF opened up about this in an interview.

While speaking with Sports Illustrated, the former AEW World Champion confirmed that he paid homage to The Game. Further, he highlighted how much the legend’s return meant to him at the time, disclosing that he was at the MSG that night. MJF added that he knew fans would figure out the connection as soon as he walked out in the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

For those unaware, Triple H returned to WWE in January 2002 at the MSG after an eight-month absence due to injury. Despite being a heel when he left, HHH received a hero’s welcome in the iconic arena. Similar to that, when MJF’s music hit, the crowd went berserk for their favorite Devil. After kicking his former best friend, Adam Cole, in the groin, the 28-year-old cut an impassionate promo.

But that jean jacket was certainly an homage to a return that meant something to me when I was a kid in Madison Square Garden.

MJF made it clear that he would be reclaiming the top spot in the promotion. In a way that only he can, The Salt of the Earth managed to reference Vince McMahon and mock the rest of the locker room. To commemorate his contract extension, he revealed his new tattoo, which signified his loyalty to AEW. Having said that, fans are eager to see how this new phase pans out for MJF.

MJF calls the biggest star in the wrestling industry

Days prior to this year’s WrestleMania, Triple H appeared on The Pat McAfee Show. While he was speaking with the host, a huge “MJF” chant broke out in the background. Obviously, the WWE CCO chose to ignore it, but the fans watching it at home heard it loud and clear.

Taking that in mind, the wrestler himself spoke about what it meant for him to hear his name on another show. MJF, in the same interview, claimed that this proved that he was not only the biggest star in AEW but in the entire industry. The former World Champion has occasionally reminded fans that he is one of the few self-built stars in the business.

On the latest episode of Dynamite, The Devil once again asserted his position as the top guy in the promotion. In addition to that, he called out Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland, who will be squaring off against each other for the AEW World title at Forbidden Door. More importantly, MJF was attacked by RUSH, with the segment ending in an all-out brawl.
