Boston Red Sox signs Trevor Story for $140M 6-year deal

The Boston Red Sox have reportedly agreed to terms with Rockies All-Star shortstop Trevor Story on a six-year deal. This whopping $140 million contract would bring him to Boston to play second base in the Major League Baseball (MLB).

The 29-year-old Story, who batted .251 with 24 homers and 75 RBIs for the Rockies last season, had an off-year that followed three straight years in which he received NL MVP votes. On the other hand, the Red Sox also have a backup plan on the left side of the infield if Xander Bogaerts (shortstop) opts out of his contract at the end of this season.

Earlier, Bogaerts, who is signed with the Sox through ’25 and has a club option for ’26, had told MLB.com that he was excited about the possibility of adding Story.

“Story has a nice swing that’s kind of built for that”

He’s a big bat. We know what he does defensively already. I think that bat would play really well at Fenway just with that short porch over there,” Bogaerts said.

He has a nice swing that’s kind of built for that. It would be nice if we could get an addition like that after some of the big names that we lost to free agency or traded away. That’s a big boy. That’s a big bat right there. That’s an impact player.”

With the addition of Story, Boston’s lineup looks quite interesting and should be something like this:

1. Kiké Hernández, CF

2. Trevor Story, 2B

3. Rafael Devers, 3B

4. Xander Bogaerts, SS

5. J.D. Martinez, DH

6. Alex Verdugo, LF

7. Bobby Dalbec, 1B

8. Jackie Bradley Jr., RF

9. Christian Vázquez, C
