Game 3 of the World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers produced several highlights. One moment regarding Bo Bichette, however, has gone viral for all the wrong reasons. The player was left stunned when he was bizarrely tagged out at first base in the second inning.
During the 2nd inning, he would reach first base against Tyler Glasnow. Daulton Varsho would then come up against the Dodgers pitcher.
With the game scoreless at that point, Varsho would work out a 3-1 count against the right-handed pitcher. Glasnow would proceed to throw a 96 mph sinker, which was a bit above the zone.
The Blue Jays star thought it would be called ball 4, and he would earn a walk. Home plate umpire Mark Wegner did not call it a strike at first. This led to Varsho and Bichette believing that their team earned a walk and started proceeding towards the next base.
As Varsho started tossing his equipment and walking to first, Wegner would call it a strike. The Dodgers would take advantage of this and throw the ball to first baseman Freddie Freeman. As Bo Bichette had started walking towards second base, he was left stranded in the middle.
Freeman would pick him up and tag him out to earn the first out of the inning. Check out the video regarding this incident below:

The call from the umpire left fans on social media upset. Had it been called a ball 4, Varsho would have drawn a walk and the Blue Jays would have had 2 runners on bases with no outs early on.
The visitors failed to put up any runs on the board in this inning. Meanwhile, the Dodgers went on to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of this frame through a solo home run from Teoscar Hernandez.

You should be allowed to fight an umpire for this https://t.co/83Nh5L15Re

I don't think I've ever seen this happen. Such an insanely bad (and late) call, Bichette just assumed it was ball 4.

John Schneider hits out at umpires following controversial call regarding Bo Bichette
Bo Bichette was controversially tagged out at first base after the home plate umpire delayed a strike call. The Toronto Blue Jays were left fuming with this decision early on. Manager John Schneider would later hit out at the officials for this.

While speaking to Ken Rosenthal during the middle of the game, the Blue Jays skipper would label it as a deliberate late call from the home plate umpire.
[It was a] very delayed call, pretty deliberate. Just didn’t say anything, so Varsh (Varsho) assumed it was a ball, and Bo (Bichette) assumed. I just asked him, in this environment, can he be a little bit quicker or give a little more clarity so everyone kind of knows what’s going on.

At the moment of writing, the game is still going and has stretched into 18 innings, tying the record for the longest World Series game. Game 3 of the 2018 World Series between the Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox also went to 18 innings. The Dodgers won that day with a walk-off home run from Max Muncy.
