“I want to play” – LA Angels’ centre Mike Trout calls out Rob Manfred after lockout saga

One of the best baseball players of all time, Mike Trout has come forward and voiced his thoughts on the Major League Baseball (MLB) cancelling the opening day after sides failed to end the lockout. This unfortunate episode unfolded after nine straight days of negotiations between the league and the players’ association.

The Los Angeles Angels superstar and a three-time American League MVP took to his official Twitter handle to pour frustration out. Trout stated that he wants to play games, but he acknowledged that it is important that the labour negotiations get taken care of before they step onto the baseball diamond.

“I want to play, I love our game, but I know we need to get this CBA right,” the nine-time MLB All-Star tweeted on Wednesday.

“Instead of bargaining in good faith — MLB locked us out.

“Instead of negotiating a fair deal — Rob cancelled games.

“Players stand together. For our game, for our fans, and for every player who comes after us. We owe it to the next generation.”

Earlier, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred addressed a press conference to announce the cancellation of the first two series of the 2022 season. This marked the ninth work stoppage in the history of one of the most prestigious sporting leagues across the globe.

“I had hoped against hope that I would not have to have this particular press conference in which I am going to cancel some regular-season games,” Manfred said on Tuesday afternoon.

“The calendar dictates that we’re not going to be able to play the first two series of the regular season and those games are officially cancelled,” Manfred said, setting up the first disruption to the MLB regular season from a work stoppage since the 1994-95 strike.
