Juan Soto shattered MLB records in December last year when he signed a 15-year $765 million deal with the New York Mets. Since then, the spotlight has been firmly on him. While there have been some critics regarding his performance, an MLB insider defended him on Monday after his grand slam led the Mets to a 10-8 win over the Detroit Tigers.

The Mets, just like their crosstown rivals, the New York Yankees, started the season in strong fashion. However, they too suffered a slump in form in the middle of the season, with Soto being one of the top names struggling at the plate.

The 4-time MLB All-Star has turned around his form in recent weeks. He was red hot in August and finished the month with 10 home runs and 22 RBIs while batting with an average of .277. He continued this form on Monday.

With the Mets 3-2 down in the top of the 4th inning, Soto clubbed his 2nd career grand slam. The Dominican international hit an 81 mph curveball of Charlie Morton into the right center field to give his team a 6-3 lead.

After the Tigers managed to level the game at 6-6, Soto stepped up again. In the top of the 6th inning, he drove in 2 more runs with a triple. He finished the day with 6 RBIs as the Mets registered an important win.

Following the game, MLB insider Sal Licata spoke regarding him. While he dismissed the talks of him being the National League MVP, he expressed that Soto had proved his doubters wrong and silenced those who claimed that he was having a down year.

I don’t know about the MVP, but you know what? I think what we could do now is put the ridiculous notion that Juan Soto’s having a bad first year with the Mets. We can put the ‘Juan Solo’ nonsense to bed because he’s more like ‘Juan 100’ when you look at the 100 RBIs that he’s gonna get, the 100 runs, the 100 walks and obviously the hits. Look at Juan Soto, this is what the Mets needed when they spent the $765 million.

Sal Licata said

After the game on Monday, Soto has 36 home runs and 90 RBIs while batting with a .257 average in 136 games. Last season, he finished with 41 home runs and 109 RBIs with a .288 average while playing for the Yankees.

Juan Soto claims September is the right moment to get hot for Mets

The 2025 MLB season has entered its final month. The performances over the next 4 weeks will determine where a team finishes in the standings. According to Juan Soto, this month is the right time for a team to get hot.

The form of the Mets has been a bit shaky in recent weeks. Despite some top performances from the top stars, the team has not clicked on the gear that many would have hoped for. Following his 6 RBI game at Comerica Park on Monday, Soto expressed that the team that gets hot in September will go all the way this year.

These are the moments. Whoever gets hot in September is the team that goes all the way. … So this is the right time to get hot.

Juan Soto told the reporters

Each win is a crucial one for the Mets at the moment. Before this win, they lost 3 out of the 4 games against the Miami Marlins.

The 74-64 Mets trail their division rivals, the Philadelphia Phillies by 6 games (80-64) in the race for the top spot in the NL East Standings. They are, however, 4 games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds (70-68) for the third and final spot in the NL Wild Card race.

Following this series against the Tigers, the Mets will face the Reds and the Phillies. A 3-game road trip against the Reds will be followed by a 4-game showdown against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.
