The Los Angeles Dodgers are heading towards the National League Division Series (NLDS). The 2024 World Series champions swept the Cincinnati Reds 2-0 in the best-of-three wild card series on Wednesday. In the midst of this, an MLB insider roasted the New York Mets with a brutal dig.
Now, one may wonder what connection the Mets have to this series? The Mets were at one stage in prime position to win the National League East Division. However, the team suffered a massive slump which saw them fall down.
In the final week of the season, the Mets did not have the playoff destiny in their hands. Due to the Reds owning the tiebreaker over them, they needed better results than the NL Central team.
On the final day of the season, the Reds ended up losing 4-2 against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Mets, however, lost 4-0 against the Miami Marlins later on. The two teams finished with an identical record of 83-79. As the Reds held the tiebreaker, they took the final wild card spot and clinched a postseason berth, leaving the Queens-based side empty-handed.
Things, though, did not get easy for the Reds. With the Brewers and the Philadelphia Phillies having a better record than the Dodgers, the reigning champions were the 3rd seed team. This saw the Reds, the 6th seed team, take on them in the wild card series.
The Dodgers pounced early on the Reds as Shohei Ohtani homered in the first inning of the game in Game 1. The Japanese superstar ended the day with 2 home runs. His two shots, along with Teoscar Hernandez‘s two home runs, helped the Dodgers to a 10-5 win.
The Reds entered the field on Wednesday with their season on the line. Despite a valiant effort, they ended up losing 8-4 and suffered a first-round exit.

With the team losing 2-0, there were several people who trolled them on social media. There were some who started comparing the Reds and the Mets and expressed that the latter could have done better in this matchup. MLB insider Jon Heyman then took a dig at the NL East team.
In a post on X, the insider delivered a massive blow to the Mets fanbase and claimed that they would not have beat the Dodgers either.
If it makes the Mets feel any better, they wouldn’t have beaten the Dodgers either

The Mets and the Dodgers did meet in the postseason last year. In the National League Championship Series (NLCS), the Dodgers took them down 4-2 in 6 games to advance to the World Series. This year though, the Mets had a winning record of them.
The 2-time World Series winners were 4-3 against them by winning the first 3-game series in May and then splitting a 4-game series in June.
Carlos Mendoza will return as the manager of the NY Mets in 2026 despite disappointing 2025 campaign
After a red-hot start, the New York Mets had a disappointing end to the 2025 season. Despite this disappointment, manager Carlos Mendoza will return to the helm in 2026.

As the Mets kept on losing games and going through slumps, many fans on social media demanded the removal of Mendoza. However, the team management continued to back him.
On Monday, a day after they were eliminated, the President of Baseball Operations, David Stearns, expressed confidence in him and admitted that Mendoza has all the traits and assets that he saw in him two years ago during his hiring.
Yeah, Carlos is coming back next year. I believe Carlos has all the same traits and assets that I believed in when we hired him two years ago. I think over the course of his tenure here, he has demonstrated that.

In his two-year tenure, Mendoza has a 172-152 record. He and the team’s front office will be hoping to bounce back strongly next year.
