Ohtani is currently one of the biggest stars in MLB. The Japanese international had another stellar season with the Dodgers in 2025 and broke even more records.
This year, he resumed his two-way role and pitched in the league for the first time since August 2023. The two-way star finished the regular season with 55 home runs, becoming the first player after Alex Rodriguez to hit 50 home runs in back-to-back seasons.
In the postseason, he batted with a .265 average and hit 8 home runs and had 14 RBIs. As for the pitching, he went 2-1 in his 4 starts and pitched with a 4.43 ERA.
He was also the starter in Game 7 of the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays. The 30-year-old did not have the best of days on the mound as he gave up a 3-run home run to Bo Bichette and was facing defeat in the big game.
The Dodgers were able to come back with some big swings from Max Muncy, Miguel Rojas and Will Smith. Solo home runs from them saw the Dodgers emerge as 5-4 winners and repeat as champions, giving Ohtani his 2nd championship ring.
Following the end of the season, the designated hitter picked up his 4th unanimous MVP award. He ended the year 2025 being named the AP Athlete of the Year for a 4th time, tying him with Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods and LeBron James for the most wins among male athletes.

Several users on social media have many times called out the MLB for their coverage regarding Ohtani. Earlier this year, the Washington Nationals called out the league regarding this after they emerged as 6-4 winners.
NY Mets star predicted to win 2026 NL MVP Award over Shohei Ohtani
After another historic season, Shohei Ohtani will be hoping for a three-peat of the World Series title in 2026 and win the NL MVP award for a third time. While many have predicted the Los Angeles Dodgers to go back-to-back-to-back, a New York Mets star is predicted to win the MVP honor ahead of Ohtani next season.

In the early predictions for the 2026 season, MLB.com had Juan Soto as the winner of the MVP honor over the Dodgers star. Soto, who joined the Mets in December 2024 on a massive $765 million deal, was one of the shining spots in a dark season for the team.
The Dominican international smashed a career high 43 home runs and had 105 RBIs. Despite this, the Mets did not make it to the playoffs as they suffered elimination on the final day of the regular season following a 4-0 loss against the Marlins.
Soto eventually went on to finish 3rd in the 2025 NL MVP race, behind Kyle Schwarber and Ohtani. The 4-time All-Star received just 4 second-place votes and had to settle for a third-place finish in this race. MLB.com has, however, predicted him to win this award in 2026.
You’re asking to be wrong if you don’t predict Shohei Ohtani to win MVP https://t.co/3AdNirC68d

If Soto were to win this award, he would need to smash some more career highs and make a deep postseason run. Given the offseason his team has had so far, many Mets fans have questioned their chances of making a big push in the playoffs.
