“Big part of what we’ve done here”: Aaron Boone declines discussion over Miguel Andujar’s trade request

New York Yankees’ outfielder-infielder Miguel Andujar requested a trade to his manager, Aaron Boone, after not receiving the opportunity prior to teammates Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre over Friday’s 13-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

The Athletics’ Ken Rosenthal confirmed the reports put forth by Hector Gómez that Miguel Andujar aka Papa has expressed his desire to be traded. On the other hand, New York Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone did not wish to promulgate the exchange of words he had with his 27-year-old player.

The entire conversation took place after the match between Yankees and Tigers, Miguel Andujar was sent down so as to make room for the star hard-hitting batter Giancarlo Stanton, who came off the injured list Saturday. The Yankees have not yet confirmed the news.

Aaron Boone was questioned over the exchange of words he shared with Miquel Andujar in the post-match press conference. Boone said,

Miquel’s a great guy, that’s a difficult option, understanding that he’s a big part of what we’ve done here, and certainly wants to be here. So, I understand that’s a tough one.” He added, “Last night was really difficult, He’s been playing regularly for us and has been a part of us winning ballgames. There have been other times in the last few years when it’s been needed to go down there and work through some things, get built up. Right now, he’s contributing, and he knows that. We know that.”

The point to be noted here is that the Yankees have no moral imperative to see their batter out traded as Miguel Andujar signed a $1.3 Million Dollar deal this year and has a couple of years left on his contract agreement.

Miguel Andujar in the past has been placed second to Shohei Ohtani in the race for the Rookie of the Year and has been seen playing in the left field and as a co-opt hitter in the Major League this season.

Competition and performance all matter, and goes into more and more opportunities,” Boone commented before Saturday’s game. “Those things kind of declare themselves as you keep moving forward.”
