“That burden, that pressure” Aaron Boone demystifies the logic behind Joey Gallo’s non-satisfying tenure at Bronx

Aaron Boone and Joey Gallo

Aaron Boone explained why Joey Gallo was a no show with the New York Yankees. The Golden Glove awardee in 2020 and 2021, will be going down as one of the biggest trade bust in the New York Yankees history. Famously known as ‘Crazy Joe’, Gallo was traded to the NY Yankees from the Texas Rangers in a six-player deal that sent four minor-leaguers to the Rangers.

Rangers got: 2B Ezequiel Duran, SS Josh Smith, IF/OF Trevor Hauver, RHP Glenn Otto. This time around Joey Gallo was traded to the Los Angeles Angles. Aaron Boone wished Gallo all the best for his future and him new home, he even addressed the reporters on why he felt Gallo couldn’t be the player he was when traded to the Yankees.

Aaron Boone said solemnly, “It’s been a tough calendar year for him, I have a lot of respect for him and a lot of respect for how he worked, how he carried himself, who he was in that room.”

Aaron Boone discussed Joey Gallo’s failure

Aaron Boone continued, “I think a lot of us really feel for the situation he was in and the burden he felt and carried. I think a lot of us, myself included, very much hope that he goes and kind of recaptures what we all know he’s capable of doing. I’ll truly be rooting for him from afar.”

Boone was asked for a lengthier explanation for Gallo’s failure, “I think that burden and that pressure, whatever you want to say, probably impacted mechanical things that need to go on when you are in the box,”.

Boone added, “I think it’s probably a little bit of a combination where he never quite got over the hump of just going in there and being himself in that kind of relaxed state.”

Gallo struck out 194 times in 501 plate appearances with the Yankees since he was acquired last summer. In that span, he hit .159/.291/.368 with 25 home runs, 46 RBI and 77 walks in 140 games played

Sometimes things just don’t work out, Aaron Boone said. “It’s baseball, sometimes, now, I think clearly this place had an adverse effect on Joey. … We always judge somebody’s results around it being here and I don’t think that’s necessarily always the case.”
