“With him, anything’s possible”: Aaron Judge all set to shadow 61 single-season HR record

Aaron Judge, Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth

Aaron Judge is considered to be one of the most polite and respectful players of the current era. The New York Yankee Aaron Judge’s early-season performance puts forward that he might be gawking on Maris, Mantle and Ruth this summer for their single-season records.

It all dates back to 1927, Babe Ruth’s 1927 home run total of 60 in a single season. The first exciting wave came up in 1961 when the said ‘magical summer’ arrived for the New York Yankees. Their great sluggers – Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle – were pursuing the record and had a cracking comparison between each other.

The record books were updated when Roger Maris slugged 61 home runs to shadow Babe Ruth’s name in the books. Later, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and Barry Bonds passed Maris, but 61 still stands as the franchise mark.

“With him, anything’s possible,” New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “That is obviously an enormous number to get to. We’ve got a long way to go there, but I won’t put a cap on anything he could do.”

Tuesday’s 10-4 victory over the Twins at Target Field marked Aaron Judge’s match to hit his 22nd home run for the season with the Yankees’ 56th game. Many fans and pundits think Judge should be the American League’s MVP frontrunner and as of now Judge is on pace with Ruth, and ahead of Mantle and Maris.

New York Yankee batter’s Home Runs (with 56 games played)

  1. Babe Ruth – 22
  2. Roger Maris – 21
  3. Maris Mantle -18
  4. Aaron Judge (present) – 22

“That’s tough to describe, especially guys like that,” Aaron Judge respectfully said, “It’s an honour, anytime you’ve got Yankees legends like that — to get a chance to be mentioned in the same category as them, the same sentence as them, it’s quite an honour. But I’m not trying to be Maris; I’m not trying to be Ruth. I’m just trying to be the best Aaron Judge I can be.”
