After being crushed apart by the Atlanta Braves on Monday, the New York Yankees were once again blown apart by their opponents. Tuesday night’s 5-0 defeat saw them record more errors (2) then hits (1) as they lost again. Another poor performance sees them sit at .500 win percentage, their worst ever at this stage of any season.
The damaging defeat at the hands of the Braves saw sees the have a 60-60 record after 120 games. This poor performance has once again seen them being slammed by their fans. Captain and star slugger Aaron Judge has admitted that the team is failing to show up when it matters the most.
Judge himself is struggling to get back in the form. The reigning AL MVP has been walked several times and is struggling at the plate following his return from a toe injury. One positive for him is that he will not be requiring any surgery on his toe.
“We’re not showing up, that’s what it comes down to,” Judge said after their loss to the Braves. He further elaborated on how they are not showing up when they need to, especially down the stretch. While the team does face the horrific scenario of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016, they are also in danger of ending with a losing record.
Luis Severino struggles again as NY Yankees drop another series
The whole year has been a disappointing one for the NY Yankees. Hit by constant injuries to several big names, the others have failed to show up. One of them who is going through a torrid stretch is pitcher Luis Severino. The Yankee southpaw is going through his worst career phase. He even admitted recently that he feels like being a pitcher in the game right now.
He once again was handed a crushing defeat. Severino gave up a three-run home run in the very first innings. This made things going forward difficult for the Yankees as they lost the plot again. In his four innings, he gave up five (three earned) runs through five hits. The team was unable to cope with their opponents and managed to collect just one hit from their nine innings.
This poor run of form has seen the New York side register just one series win in their last 13 such series. At one stage of the season, the Yanks were 36-24. However, their season got completely derailed after the injury to Judge, and are now 24-36 in their last 60 games. They are also bottom of their division, three and a half games behind fourth place, Boston Red Sox.
