In a year where everything seems to fall apart for the New York Yankees, their captain Aaron Judge has performed with consistency. The 2022 AL MVP has missed a huge chunk of games due to his injuries which has directly affected the Yankees’ offense. On Friday though, the team had a celebratory moment as Judge became the fastest player to hit 250 home runs.

The 31-year-old slugger has established himself as one of the greatest hitters in the game. Last season he broke the record for the most home runs in AL history. This season he looked to replicate that feat again but an injury in April and June derailed his momentum. His blast against the Houston Astros was his 30th home run of the year.

The Yankees leader has shown his leadership skills quite well this season. With the team leading 5-2, Judge went up against Justin Verlander at the start of the fifth inning. On the first pitch of the inning, he swung his bat to send the ball deep into the stands.

His 250th home run came in his 810th game. This is the fastest time taken by a player to achieve this feat, breaking the previous record of Ryan Howard. The Philadelphia Phillies slugger accomplished this milestone in 850 games back in 2010.

Since his debut in MLB, Aaron Judge has shown off his exceptional hitting skills time and time again. In his rookie year, he smashed 52 home runs. At the moment he has 30 home runs this season. Considering he has missed a huge number of games due to injuries, this is a respectable total. However, all of this looks pale to his record last season.

It was also going to be difficult to replicate the heroics from last season. With the Yankees likely out of contention for the playoff spots, Judge could sit out a few games at the end of the season to get some rest following his toe surgery. He though has got a habit of breaking records and once again did so on Friday as he became the fastest man to reach 250 home runs. One user would write “the goat of baseball” while hailing him. Here are some other reactions from Twitter.

Judge’s home run capped off a perfect night in Houston for the Yankees. The team earlier saw young prospect Jasson Dominguez hit a home run on his debut in the major leagues. At present, they might be struggling, but the Yanks can start using the remainder of the games to prepare for the future as the final regular month of MLB season rolls on.
