“UN-BAA-LIEVABLE” Aaron Judge demolishes HR No. 58 & 59, wrestling his way to the Triple Crown
Aaron Judge
Aaron Judge stands tall yet again, smashing his MLB-leading 58th and 59th homerun against the Milwaukee Brewers in the New York Yankees’ 12-8 win on Sunday. With the performances that Aaron Judge has put up in the recent games, he has made his name a contention for the Triple Crown.
Judge would become the 11th player in the history of Major League Baseball to lead his league in batting average, home runs and RBIs (since RBIs became an official statistic in 1920). What started with a target to chase down a single season HR record has become a challenge to secure something much higher.
“It’s not too difficult if your main focus and your main objective is to go out there and win a game,” Aaron Judge said. “The numbers, they’re just numbers. I’m focused on doing what I can to be a good teammate and help the team win. If that means hitting a homer, it means hitting a homer, but it’s never been my focus.”
Aaron Boone applauds his star slugger as Aaron Judge challenges Goldschmidt for the Triple Crown
“It should be really special,” manager Aaron Boone said. “Obviously, we’re in a pennant chase, and Judge is sitting where he is. There’s going to be added buzz every time he comes up. I experienced that in the NL Central playing against Sammy [Sosa] and [Mark] McGwire in ’98. Every time, it’s an event.”
According to Aaron Judge, the chants of him moving past Maris’ record and him going for the triple crown has distracted him for he wants to focus on the team’s October objective. “I tune it out,” he said. “I try to stay off all of that stuff as much as I can.”
Judge added, “If you have a bad game, they’re going to say something. You have a good game, they’re going to say something. I just focus on what I’ve got to do here, focus on helping this team. The opinions of my teammates and coaches, that’s what matters to me.”
