How many home runs did Aaron Judge hit in his rookie year?
Aaron Judge
Aaron Judge, also known as ‘All Rise’ is currently a free agent after playing for the New York Yankees from 2016-2022. Unanimously selected for the AL Rookie of the Year in 2017, the baseball outfielder had several record-breaking seasons in his career. He also won the AL MVP award in the same year.
2017 marked his rookie year, as the team named him for their opening day against the Tampa Bay Rays. On April 28, he enjoyed his first multi-home run game against the Baltimore Orioles. The team won 14-11 against the Orioles. During the game, one of his hits measured 119.4 miles per hour, the highest recorded by Statcast since 2015.
Judge tied the rookie record with Trevor Story, and Jose Abreu by ending the month with 10 home runs. His first career grand slam came against the Oakland Athletics on May 28 and was later named the AL Rookie of the Month. Shortly afterward in July, he broke Joe DiMaggio’s record for most home runs hit by a Yankees rookie.
He was the first Yankee to hit 30 home runs before the All-Star game other than Alex Rodriguez. During a game in September, Aaron Judge became the 2nd rookie in MLB history to hit 40 home runs in a single season since Mark McGwire. However, this wasn’t the end of his glorious streak.
Aaron Judge made baseball history in 2022
Aaron Judge reached the untouched record of 61 home runs set by the Yankees’ Roger Maris in a single season. Until then, no American League player broke off his milestone record, but Judge’s 62nd shot broke the record, crowning it with a new one in its place.
The breakthrough was marked on October 4 against Jesus Tinoco of Texas Rangers, setting a new season AL home run record. He led the major league with 62 home runs, 133 runs covered, 131 RBIs, and 111 walks. The game night took place at Arlington, Texas where the 30-year-old received a standing ovation from the fans.
It was a huge celebratory moment as everyone participated in rejoicing in his milestone achievement on the field. Aaron Judge commented, “It’s a big relief, it’s been a fun ride so far”. He shattered his previous bests during his 7th season with carrying a formidable batting average of .311.
He may be able to end the season while leading the league in all three statistics, scooping up the Triple Crown. If he accomplishes that, he’ll be the first player to do so in a decade. He’ll be testing the free market after he turned down the Yankees’ $213.5 million deal. Recently, transfer rumors about Judge have been on the rise, with Giants rising as the strongest competitors.
