It has actually happened. The New York Yankees have finally won a game, much to the delight of their fans. The side had embarked on one of the worst runs of their poor season and had lost nine games on the bounce. Captain Aaron Judge led the charge this time as he crushed not one, not two but three home runs. This helped the team register a 9-1 win against the Washington Nationals.

The Yankees are not having a good year. They are currently bottom of the AL East, way behind the playoff race. The fall-off from last year where they finished first with a 99-63 record seems like a distant memory for them. After they were swept by the Atlanta Braves, the team reached a new low as they got swept again, this time by their eternal rivals, the Boston Red Sox.

The team entered the field on Wednesday, having lost nine in a row. They had last lost 10 games on the bounce over 110 years ago in 1913. General manager Brian Cashman had addressed the team early on and admitted that this was the worst season they had ever had.

Judge homered in the first inning and then hit a grand slam in the second to give them a cushion. It turned vital as Luis Severino had one of the best outings of this season. The pitcher who has admitted to being struggling this year, looked once again at his best as he threw 6.2 scoreless innings. Their leader capped off a fine performance with his third home run in the seventh inning.

When a team goes through a bad phase, lots of eyes are placed on the big players. Despite this win, the NY Yankees have had a disappointing season with several names failing to show up. This time of runs brings out the best in some leaders as seen with Aaron Judge. The Yankees captain turned into a proper leader and led the charge from the get-go.

His manager Aaron Boone called him a special player as Judge played the same way he did last season. Chants of “MVP” broke down in the Yankee stadium after his third home run as he helped them get a much-needed win. Twitter was also full of praises for the 2022 AL MVP and the Yankees. One user wrote “the streak is over ” while soaking the triumph. Here are a few other reactions as well.

The Bronx Bombers would be hoping this is a start for good things to come. After the rubber match with the Nationals on Thursday, the Yankees will go up against the Tampa Bay Rays. The chances of them making the postseason are slim but they can at least hope to finish the season with their heads held high.
