“KABOOM 30”: Aaron Judge torches grand slam hit for Home Run No. 30 before All-star break

Aaron Judge

Aaron Judge shines as the New York Yankees knocked the daylight out of the Pittsburgh Pirates as they win 16-0 on Wednesday. The slugger went on to be the first hitter to secure 30 home runs this season before the All-Star break. Doesn’t Judge have a completely different aura around him in this season? The 30th homer left the bat at a sizzling 114.7 mph and travelled 419 feet.

Judge’s 30th home run came in the eighth inning when he dinged a grand slam against his former teammate, Manny Bañuelos. Aaron stepped in the elites with his hit, having your name amongst the Yankees’ storied ranks is something to cherish, aye?

With the slam, Judge tied Alex Rodriguez (2007) and, well, himself (2017) for the second-most home runs before the All-Star break in Yankees history. Roger Maris’ fabulous 33 homers in 1961 still stand as the record to beat. (Babe Ruth hit 32 in three seasons (1921, 1928 and 1930) but all came before the first All-Star Game in 1933.)

Aaron Judge has reached 30 home runs, before the All-Star break, for the second time in his career. He is also the second player in American League history with multiple seasons of 30 or more homers before the All-Star break, joining Ken Griffey Jr. (1994, 1997 and 1998).

“I turned to [bench coach Carlos Mendoza] about an inning later and said, ‘He’s got 30 homers,’” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “Yeah, it’s hard for me to relate to that. It’s been pretty impressive halfway in here, the kind of baseball he’s playing, and obviously, the power has been right there.”

Aaron Judge has already proved his excellence amongst the fans by walking right into the 2022 All-Star Game, the top vote-getter in the AL in the first phase of All-Star voting, but his sights are still on the bigger picture of playing for October. Imagine a world series title and the most home runs in a season, I guess we would have to wait and see if Aaron Judge continues his supremacy.

“I’m glad it came in a win,” Judge said. “I think that’s what’s more important here, with the way this team has been rolling.”
