“Kind of a full-circle moment”: Adley Rutschman registers first HR after 21 games and 84 plates in Majors
Adley Rutschman
It seems like patience has been finally rewarded for 2019 No.1 MLB Draft Pick, Adley Rutschman. Having scored 23 home runs in the minors last season, managed to register his first home run in the majors after 21 games and 84 plates. Jumping on the first-pitch fastball from Jays’ starter Jose Berrios in the fourth innings, Adley Rutschman powered a deep drive for a two-run homer.
The spoken-off hit by Adley Rutschman travelled 411 feet resulting in the Orioles catcher’s first two-league RBIs. Some even speculate that this spoken-off performance could be the start of the illustrious career of this 24-year-old sensation, especially after knowing that the switch-hitter is 7-for-22 over his past six games.
Adley Rutschman was greeted at the dugout steps by Trey Mancini with the home run chain in hand, determining how much the moment meant for the homer headline-maker. Moreover, Adley tackled a double in Baltimore’s 7-6, 10-inning loss to Toronto.

Trey Mancini on Adley Rutschman hitting his first home run in Majors on Wednesday night
“I know when you’re in a bit of a homer drought and especially when the homer’s your first Major League homer, you kind of just want a hug after that,” Mancini said. “I remember Manny [Machado] gave me a hug [after] my first home run. So it was kind of like a full-circle moment. … But yeah, just felt like Adley deserved and needed a hug right there. Because it’s a great feeling.”
To bring everyone on the same page, this is one feeling Mancini didn’t experience in his Majors career as he did not wait long enough for his first home run. He banged a solo shot in his second at-bat as a September callup in 2016. But the handing over of the gold chain could be seen as Mancini sympathizing with the young Rutschman.
“I mean, naturally, you definitely take a load off whenever you hit your first home run,” Trey Mancini said. “And definitely, you’re able to breathe a little bit more. But he’s handled himself so well. I think there is a degree of relaxation and kind of that metaphoric deep breath you really can take after that first homer. I’m really excited to see what he does from here on out. He’s got a great, long career ahead of him.”
