One of the most talked about things in Major League Baseball (MLB) this season has been the future of LA Angels two-way player Shohei Ohtani. While dark clouds continue to circle about his future, several experts and analysts have proposed stunning trades regarding them. Baseball great Alex Rodriguez has now jumped on this train and proposed a rather strange trade talk involving Ohtani and his teammate Mike Trout as well.
The LA Angels have received heavy criticism for failing to make it to the latter stages despite having the likes of both Ohtani and Trout. The duo are considered by many as the greatest players of this generation. The Angels have heavily relied on these two to bail them out. A-Rod has claimed that the Angels would be better off by not just trading Ohtani but Trout as well.
In a bold move, the former Yankee superstar said that the Angels would win the world series in five years if they get rid of Ohtani first and then Trout. One would think, If the Angels are unable to do this with both of them, how will they cope without them? According to A-Rod, the Angels should trade them for a bunch of players and build a team around them.
“I think the Angels win a world championship in five years if they do so, first, you trade Ohtani, then you trade Trout,” Rodriguez said. He wants the Angels to use them as leverage to get five-six guys who can play all-round and then a new owner. Though it is highly unlikely that the team would be willing to lose both of their stars in quick succession.
Shohei Ohtani admits he hates to loss as free agency looms over
If there is one thing that every professional player hates is losing. Nobody likes to be a part of being called a loser. Players like Shohei Ohtani feel the same way about it. Recently he claimed it “sucks to lose”. This could prove to be a major point in the LA Angels being forced to trade away their star. If they do not trade Ohtani, the Angels face the daunting reality of losing him for free.
Ohtani’s future is now well and truly tied with the performance of his side. With the absence of Mike Trout for at least a month, the pressure has increased on the team to deliver. The side has a realistic chance to make it through to the playoffs this year. “I have never been a free agent before, so I’m not sure how that’s gonna be,” Ohtani said recently.
Talks about his future continue. One might bash Alex Rodriguez for his proposal but he is not technically wrong. There is no guarantee that Ohtani will re-sign with the team next year. It would be better if the Angels can acquire some top talents in the exchange. It will be difficult to replace the Japanese sensation but the Angels will have to make a decision sooner or later.
