Andrew Benintendi
Andrew Benintendi is heading to the 10-day injured list with right wrist inflammation, the team announced Saturday. Things are certainly not going as the New York Yankees would have wanted after the Major League Baseball’s All-Star game 2022. Benintendi was removed from New York’s 9-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday with a right wrist injury.
The Yankees acquired Andrew Benintendi in a trade from the Kansas City Royals ahead of the Aug. 2 deadline. In 33 games with the franchise, he is hitting .246/.323/.395 with two home runs, 12 RBI and four stolen bases.
“He felt like something popped in his wrist and he’s got some numbness in his fingers right now,” Aaron Boone said once Andrew Benintendi left the game. “We’ll have to get all the MRIs [Saturday], which will tell us more. It’s unfortunate for him to have that happen, and we hope the best for him.”
“Obviously, a big [loss],” manager Boone said Friday after placing Benintendi on a 10-day IL. “Obviously, an important guy in our line-up right now, especially as we struggle as much as we are right now offensively. Benny has been hitting the ball really well.”
After Andrew Benintendi leaves the game, Aaron Boone was fuming with the 9-0 result against Rays

“That’s an embarrassing loss,” said the fuming manager Aaron Boone. “Hopefully, one of those rock-bottom situations, where you should be pissed off and embarrassed. We’ve set a better standard around here. We just got to be better. Period.”
“It’s just embarrassing when you get beat like that and you’re going through the struggles you are,” Boone added. “I’m in charge of this team. What we’re going through right now, I know better than anyone, there’s going to be hard moments and hard times. I do think the effort’s there, I think the care is there. But we’ve set a much better standard in that room that we’ve got to start living up to.”
The New York Yankees have indeed taken a free fall from the position they built for themselves before the All-Star break. The franchise has struggled as of late and the Rays are closing the gap in the division, sitting just five games behind, and now with Andrew Benintendi out for two weeks.
