“Precaution is better than cure”- Andrew Benintendi to get vaccinated following his trade to New York Yankees

Andrew Benintendi

The New York Yankees made a splash on Wednesday night, ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline on August 2nd, acquiring Kansas City Royals All-Star outfielder Andrew Benintendi in exchange for three prospects. Some teams were hesitant to sign the former Red Sox star because he is unvaccinated.

As Nightengale pointed out, Benintendi told the Royals before leaving that he was going to get the vaccine. This is certainly good news for New York, because if they had faced the Toronto Blue Jays in the playoffs, Andrew Benintendi would have been unable to play. Canada has strict COVID-19 rules, as evidenced by JT Realmuto, Nolan Arenado, and Paul Goldschmidt being unable to travel up north with their respective teams.

Andrew Benintendi should blend right in

Andrew Benintendi on getting vaccinated after move to the Yankees

Benintendi is a fantastic addition for the Yankees, and he looks to be the immediate replacement for Joey Gallo, who was hoping to be included in this deal with the Royals after a miserable season in the Bronx. Benintendi has only three home runs this season, but he’s hitting.320 in 93 games and driving in 39.

New York was swept in the Subway Series by the Mets and desperately needs a spark right now. Andrew Benintendi should be able to blend right in. The Yankee Stadium’s short porch in right field should also help him increase his home run totals in the second half. The Yankees must now concentrate on getting rid of Gallo.
