4x Gold Glove winner Anthony Rizzo signed a 2-year $40 million contract with the New York Yankees. Prior to signing, he turned down a $16 million player option. Now that the Yankees’ first baseman is back on the team, he wishes Aaron Judge to don the pinstripes once again.

With Rizzo’s contract, he’ll enjoy $17 million next two seasons. His deal also includes a $17 million team option for 2025. On Wednesday, Rizzo commented, “I hope Judge stays just for the sake of the game because you see a lot of franchise icons not getting what they deserve for the team that they have done so much for.”

“My wife, Emily, and I really love it here. We love the city. We love the energy. We love Yankee Stadium. We love going to Yankee Stadium and playing at that park every day”. “And you look at the team, the New York Yankees are a team that, this organization, this franchise, that has consistently put winning products on the field.”

As of now, Judge is enjoying the free waters. After Anthony Rizzo’s contract was finalized, Aaron Judge reached out to him. According to Rizzo, it was to congratulate the 33-year-old baseballer, “Just congratulations — the basics: ‘Well deserved. Happy for you. Say hi to Emily.'”

For the fourth time in his Major League Baseball career, Anthony Rizzo hit .224 with 75 RBIs and 32 home runs. In the Yankees Stadium, he blasted 19 homers with 6 close to the right field foul line. Before stepping foot on MLB grounds, he led the Chicago Cubs to win the 2016 World Series title, the first in 108 years.

Though he didn’t go into details about which teams contacted him during his free reign, he expressed his gratitude and love for the Yankees, stating, “Just playing baseball isn’t enough in a big market. There’s a lot of other things that come with that and I enjoy doing those things”.

“I enjoy taking responsibility to do those things, to stand up to talk to the media, good, bad or indifferent. And I think that really teaches you a lot about this game of baseball and it teaches you valuable lessons in your own life.”
