The Atlanta Braves at the moment are an unstoppable force of nature. Their 4-1 win over the Philadephia Phillies sealed their 96th win of the season. This was enough to see off their division rivals as they clinched the National League East division. This was also their sixth straight division title, proving their dominance in the division.
After a closely fought battle last season with the New York Mets, the Braves were once expected to put up a fight with them. Surprisingly, the Mets endured one of the worst seasons in their recent past which allowed their rivals to run away from them. This win not only guaranteed them the division title but also gave out a huge statement to their challengers.
The Braves once again jumped on board early as Austin Riley launched a two-run home run in the first inning. The Phillies did manage to cut back the game to 2-1 in the first itself but were unable to add any more runs. Riley drove in another run through a sac fly before Kevin Pillar’s hit in the right field made it a 4-1 ball game.
This was followed by another strong pitching performance from pitcher Spencer Strider as he collected his 17th win of the season. This clinch game in the 146th game of the season, the second fastest in the divisional expansion era.
Tyler Matzek hits back at Phillies Manager for his home-run celebration
The name of Ronald Acuna Jr. has been trending heavily in recent weeks. This is because of his impressive performances where he has broken several records. He has one of the top stars for the Atlanta Braves this season yet again. He is also not shy of celebrating something that was not appreciated by Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thompson. The coach has now taken a shot at him.
“I like our guys to act like they’ve been there before,” Thomson said while referring to the home-run celebration of Acuna Jr. and his teammates. The Braves players flap their hands like birds when someone from their side hits a home run. Acuna Jr. teammate Tyler Matzek has come into his aide and wrote “If you don’t like it, stop it.”
“If you can’t stop it, admire it. If you still can’t admire it, keep it down so everyone else can enjoy the show,” the pitcher further wrote on his Twitter account before adding “#AcunaMVP” while showing his support to him.
Acuna Jr. has been the front-runner for the NL MVP for a long time. His recent showdown with Mookie Betts, another NL MVP candidate saw him come out on top again. He is on the verge of creating more history by becoming the first player to enter the 40-60 club if he manages to hit three more home runs.
