According to reports from Bryan Hoch, Cashman has claimed that new signee Juan Soto will likely hit free agency after the 2024 season. Speaking on the status of Soto with the team, Cashman said, “The odds are this is a one-year situation. I don’t see too many things stopping him from reaching free agency“.

Soto joined the Yankees in December 2023 in a blockbuster trade deal with the San Diego Padres. The 2019 World Series winner left the Padres after signing with them in 2022 and made his way through to New York.

Following the expiration of his one-year pact with the team, the 25-year-old star will enter free agency if the Yankees do not initiate any extension talks with him. However, they team could still re-sign him in the offseason next year, though at a very high price. It will now be interesting to see how his 2024 campaign goes on with the constant talks about his contract looming over his shoulders.
