The amazing career of Bryce Harper continues to add new milestones. After he recently reached the 300-home run club, he notched up another impressive accomplishment. The Phillies slugger has now reached the 1,500-hit milestone following his home run against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.
Harper has made a name for himself through his massive hitting and slugging abilities. On top of that, he is incredibly fast as he can be seen racing around the bases in no time. A man for the bigger occasion, Harper has been known for hitting clutch home and igniting several comebacks for his team. By accomplishing this feat, he became the 18th player in MLB history to reach 1,500 hits and 300 home runs before turning 31.
As the Phillies took on the high-flying Atlanta Braves, the matchup got intense. The Braves as they have done all season, once again started off strong. Matt Olson launched his 51st home of the season, tying the franchise record set by Andruw Jones in 2005. Ronald Acuna Jr. later joined the party as he slammed his 37th home run.
The Braves would take a 6-1 lead at one stage. With the Phillies now trailing their opponents 6-2 in the eight, upstepped Harper. He would proceed to hit his 17th home run of the year which cut the deficit to 6-3 to initiate another comeback. The team would later complete the comeback to make it 6-6 but suffered a late collapse.
Phillies suffer another late collapse in extra innings against Braves
The last thing a player wants while reaching a milestone moment is seeing his side suffer a defeat. Unfortunately for Bryce Harper, this was the case as the Atlanta Braves crushed their hearts in the tenth inning with a 7-6 victory. This was the second time in two days where they came back in the ninth inning and lost to the Braves in the extra innings.
The Phillies man was left a little disappointed after the team’s loss and claimed that they have to win these close games. “We’ve got to win these games, especially the close ones like that, especially when you are at home. Any time you are able to win these games and put pressure on other teams, you’ve got to do it,” he said after the game.
As the Braves have taken another game against them, they are closing in on the National League East title. The Phillies could level the series with a win on Wednesday night. The team does occupy the first spot in the wild card standings but as the season draws to a close, they would be hoping to avoid a poor run of form which could see them lose their grip.
