In the last few days, it seems the number of inside-the-park home runs has increased. Philidelphia Phillies star man Bryce Harper is now the latest player to record an inside-the-park homer. He did this so on Monday against the SF Giants. This was the fifth inside-the-park home run since last week.
Harper is no stranger to hitting home runs. The power he generates in his swings usually helps him clear the yard with ease on good contact. Sometimes though, things do not go as originally planned. While Harper would have looked to see the ball leave the fence, he did not mind rounding off the bases to record a home run.
The incident was recorded in the seventh inning. With the Phillies leading 4-2, Harper stepped up to the plate. The two-time NL MVP was 1-for-2 at that point. He would connect the ball well and it would go flying high. The ball hit the wall and ricocheted to the side.
Giants fielder Wade Meckler missed the grabbing chance due to it. As the ball rolled away from him, Harper continued his run. Meckler would also fumble the ball once, perhaps due to the pressure of Harper. By the time the ball reached home plate, the 30-year-old hitter had already started celebrating with his teammates.
Bryce Harper picking up form at the right time
There is no doubt that Bryce Harper is one of the best players in the Phillies. The 2021 NL MVP has continued to be the warrior for the franchise as they move forward. He played an important part in their run toward the World Series last year. After that, he got injured and underwent Tommy John surgery.
His dedication to the sport saw him make an incredible comeback. He would surprise everyone involved with baseball with his quick recovery. Since then he has been playing regularly. His numbers have been less than in previous years but Harper is picking form at the right moment for the Phillies.
The month of August has seen a change in his form. He was struggling a bit at the plate like his teammate Trea Turner. However, it seems that he has found his original form again.
Before his inside-the-park home run, Harper was batting with an average of .302 and had four home runs to his name. In total, he only had nine home runs before the game on Monday. His coming back in the form will be crucial for the Phillies as they are right in the mix of another postseason push.
