In the huge realm of baseball, one swing of a bat, a good pitch, or some great fielding could change the entire outcome of a game. As the postseason rolls on, the time to become a team’s hero is now. Shortstop (SS) Carlos Correa did just that as he made an incredible play during the first game of the wild card series between the Minnesota Twins and the Toronto Blue Jays. This play from him has now led to comparisons to Derek Jeter.

The MLB Hall of Famer has recorded some astonishing moments in his career. While making appearances at the SS position, Jeter has made some crucial plays. One such play was during the 2001 ALDS against the Oakland Athletics. This play by Correa is something similar to the former Yankees captain’ play.

With the Twins leading the game 3-0, the Blue Jays came out to bat in the top of the fourth inning. Kevin Kiermaier would hit a ball that would bounce off the ground. Jorge Palanco, playing in an unfamiliar territory would miss to collect the ball allowing Bo Bichette to round off third base and head for home.

Correa would then proceed to make a bare-handed throw to the catcher Ryan Jeffers, who would collect the ball and tag out the Blue Jays hitter. This play showed off his great fielding prowess and his quick reactions which played an important part in his side’s victory.

Carlos Correa leads Minnesota Twins to first playoff series win in 21 years

In recent years, the Minnesota Twins have emerged as one of the top contenders in the MLB. Their rapid climb in the American League Central has shown off their dominance in that division. However, they were unable to replicate that form in the postseason and suffered constant early elimination. This time though things have been different as Carlos Correra and his heroics have led to a first playoff win in 21 years.

After a successful spell with the Houston Astros, Correa would sign a mega six-year deal to play for the Twins. He though had been plagued by injuries resulting him in missing several games. The 29-year-old came up clutch in this series as his batting and fielding efforts paid off. Following their 3-1 win, the Twins would go on to complete the sweep and win game two by a score of 2-0.

This now means that the Twins will now face the Astros in the best-of-five ALDS game series. Correa will go up against his former employees. It might be a little emotional for me but he has insisted time and again that he does not want to playoffs again. During the regular season, these two teams faced off six times with the Minnesota outfit winning on four occasions.
