As the Spring training goes on, the worries for New York Yankees seems to go on as well. During their recent game against the Tampa Bay Rays, pitcher Carlos Rodon once again struggled to make the desired impact. Despite this, he is confident about the 2024 season.

The former Chicago White Sox star has so far not enjoyed a good time with the New York outfit. Coming back from an injury in the second half of the 2023 season, he recorded some poor numbers. In 14 starts, the two-time All-Star finished with a disappointing 3-8 record with an high ERA of 6.85.

While trying to put the disappointments of the previous season behind him, Rodon took to the mound against the Rays. He though suffered the worst start possible as Yandy Diaz slammed a home run on the very first pitch of the game.

Rodon ended up pitching three innings and giving up another home run and conceding three runs. The 31-year-old though backed himself up and spoke about the upcoming season.

I just need to stay on the mound. That’s it. I’m pretty good at this game when I’m healthy.
Carlos Rodon on the upcoming season.

The Bronx Bombers would certainly love to see him get back to his best form as the prepare for a huge year. Rodon is going to a key part of a pitching rotation where he would likely take the number two spot behind ace pitcher Gerrit Cole.

Aaron Boone backs Carlos Rodon after shaky start against Rays

Speaking after the game Boone said via Newsday:

He didn’t have great life on his fastball today. I thought, really, in between the first and last pitch, I thought he pitched really well. I thought he ‘pitched,’ which was good to see. I thought he did a good job with the cutter. I thought he landed some of his change and breaking balls for strikes. So that was good to see. So I thought a positive day overall.

Though Rodon is currently healthy, his coach will give him extra time for recovering. As per reports from MLB, his next start could come in six days as the rotation moves on. Rodon will be keen to bounce back from this setback in that next appearance. As for the Yankees, they have now lost two back-to-back games and will hoping to avoid a third straight game against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday.
