“Spreading FALSE narrative”: Casey Close threatens to sue sports radio host Doug Gottlieb for misleading ‘incorrect’ facts

Casey Close, Freddie Freeman and Doug Gottlieb

When Freddie Freeman returned to Atlanta Braves, whilst firing his former agent Casey Close, many expected the latter to be the primary reason why he was forced adjust his life as a Dodger. Given that MLBPA notified all agents not to speak to Freddie for the time being, sports radio host Doug Gottlieb was quick to opinionate in the matter.

To make everyone aware of the backstory, Doug claimed that Casey Close misled the spoken off player in free agency, forcing him to bow out of Braves. Upon learning the same Freeman dropped Casey as his agent. On the same note, it seems like Casey Close has had enough of sports media personalities spreading false information and decided to take action upon the same. As per ESPN, Close has responded by suing Gottlieb for libel.

When Doug made the particular claim, Close was quick to defend his stance. He revealed that there was transparent communication between him and Freeman. Moreover the decision to join LA Dodgers was squarely on the player, and was never a ‘selfish’ choice.

To elaborate upon it, Casey Close also called out the Atlanta Braves for what he considered creating a false narrative around the Freddie Freeman’s negotiation. Safe to say, it feels like a lot of finger pointing. But Close is determined to hold all ‘culprits’ responsible for spreading unwanted information about him or his work.

Given that there is immense drama to unfold on this move, which took place months ago, it is indeed a lesson to learn for Freeman and future free agents. It is important to make the end goal clear to those who represent them. There are no two-ways in depicting that if Freeman wanted to stay in Atlanta, he should have made that clear to his agency.
