Sports is a form of entertainment that has defined fairness over the years. Though they are various ways to win, players something uses special tricks to get the better of their opponents. Not only does this make their image bad in the public eye, but it also brings out the accusations of “dirty player” and “cheater“. Houston Astros’s Chas McCormick is now being bombarded with this following his “glove slap” incident with Ty France of Seattle Mariners on Thursday.
The Houston Astros have become a team being labeled as “cheaters“. The team was found guilty of using sign-stealing during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. An incident like this only damages the reputation further. McCormick was literally seen trying to swipe the ball away from the glove of France while trying to reach first base. “Not sure why Chas was reaching out there,” the announcer was heard after the replay.
This incident has now led several fans to refer back to the antics of MLB great Alex Rodriguez in the 2004 ALCS. In Game 6 of the matchup, A-Rod would literally slap the ball out of the glove of Bronson Arroyo to reach first base. While A-Rod’s action was not seen so clearly in the first instance, McCormick was as clear as daylight. Lucky for him, he got away from any potential punishment by the MLB.
Chas McCormick apologizes to Ty France following intense backlash

The actions by Chas McCormick were clearly out of sporting merits. Following the incident, debates sparked on social media. Many fans brutally trolled and condemned him for his actions in his side’s 5-1 loss to the Mariners. He would later realize his mistake and leave a text to Ty France, apologizing for his antics earlier during the game.
While there were no further comments from the players and managers, Twitter was not forgiving him soon. They were not pleased with his excuse and mocked his left and right on the micro-blogging site. Here are a few reactions regarding this “dirty play” incident.
Recently MLB Commissioner expressed his displeasure and admitted that he failed to discipline the Astros for their sign-stealing scandals. It is very unlikely that McCormick will face any penalties regarding this incident in the future. The Astros are having a tough time this season. The defending champions are currently 49-40 after losing 10-1 to the Mariners in the second game of the series. The upcoming All-Star break could be a good time for them to regroup.
